So I tried to look him up to find what I had read. Before I could even accomplish this task, I found what appears to be a very interesting memoir by him. Amazon wouldn't let me copy the description so I'll just refer you to: Last Resort by Linwood Barclay. I think it might explain about the missing person theme to his books.
